James is currently a Campaign Ambassador for Baby Lifeline, the mother and baby charity. He has campaigned for patient safety since his son Joshua sadly died nine days after being born at Furness General Hospital in 2008. A former project manager in the nuclear industry James now focuses on patient safety. He was the Care Quality Commission’s National Adviser on Patient Safety and has advised on the establishment of the Healthcare Safety Investigations Branch (HSIB).

A Chartered Accountant by qualification, David founded Grunberg & Co, a top 100 accounting firm. Since retiring, he became a council member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales London Council, having been selected by his fellow peers in the profession for this forward-thinking approach. This tenure has recently ended, giving David the time to devote his attention to various charities, having been appointed as Trustee to those closest to his heart. His philanthropic work has included raising awareness for the Weizmann Institute, and the Haifa Technion, both world renowned organisations, known for their scientific research.

Mike Durkin is the Chairman of the Governing Board for the Patient Safety Movement Foundation. As one of the world’s foremost authorities on patient safety, he holds numerous advisory positions, serving as Senior Advisor on Patient Safety Policy and Leadership for the NIHR Imperial College Patient Safety Translational Research Centre in the UK, and Academic Director of the Global Patient Safety Collaborative, a partnership between the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UK government.

A qualified physician, Mike previously held clinical, research, and teaching positions in cardiovascular anesthesia and critical care in the UK and the US, before embarking on a 25-year career in medical management and leadership, culminating in an appointment as NHS Medical Director across the South of England.

Mike subsequently served as the NHS National Director of Patient Safety, leading the development of the National Patient Safety Alerting System and 15 Patient Safety Collaboratives across England. He has also worked to promote patient safety across the world, helping to establish WHO’s Global Ministerial Summits on Patient Safety which have been held in locations ranging from Tokyo to Jeddah.
